Introduction

National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) traces its origin to the Advanced Academy of Agronomy and Forestry, which was established in 1919. Today, it is one of the few tertiary education institutions with a significantly long history in Taiwan. NCHU comprises of 8 colleges, an International College of Innovation and Industry Liaison and 10 major research centers. The university also owns 4 experimental forest stations, a veterinary hospital, an agricultural experimental farm and an experimental farm. These teaching and research facilities occupy an area of more than 8,000 hectares. Presently, the university has a total number of 760 fulltime academic staff, more than 1420 research and administrative supporting staff, and a student population of about 15,100, of which 40% are graduate students. NCHU has become a beacon of excellence in institutional and administrative system reform, academic research, teaching quality, talent cultivation, university internationalization and academia-industry collaboration. The university was a recipient of the two phases of the Aiming for Top University project grant launched by the Ministry of Education (MOE) in 2006 and 2011, respectively. NCHU continued to be selected for the MOE Higher Education Sprout Project in 2018, with a total funding that ranked sixth among all the universities in Taiwan. Under this project, NCHU will continue to strive for further improvement in teaching quality, promoting the multi-faceted development of the students and also enhancing international competitiveness of the university.
