Sitting on 1,900 acres, Iowa State University is classified as a Carnegie Foundation Doctoral and Research University and is ranked among the nation’s most beautiful college campuses. The university is located approximately 30 minutes North of Des Moines in Ames, Iowa, which was recently voted as one of the nation’s best college towns. Iowa State is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU) and is home to more than 34,000 students and over 6,900 faculty and staff. Iowa State is member of the Big 12 Athletic Conference and the NCAA (Division I). The “Cyclones” field 18 varsity squads, which include 11 women’s and 7 men’s intercollegiate teams. Students have a wide variety of networking opportunities, which include more than 850 student clubs and organizations, 45 different types of intramural sports, and over 90 learning communities.
