Yanbian University is located at Yanji, the capital city of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Jilin Province, which is known as the “land of education”. The University is one of the key "211 Project" universities, one of the 14 universities with the key support of the Ministry of Education (MOE) in China’s western development campaign, and a key university jointly built by the MOE and Jilin Provincial Government. The University consists of 21 colleges. There are 74 undergraduate specialties, covering 12 branches of learning such as philosophy, economics sciences, law, education, literature, history, natural sciences, engineering, agricultural sciences, medicine, management sciences, and arts. The University offers 6 first-level and over 50 second-level disciplines for PhD granting, 24 first-level and 149 second-level disciplines for Master’s degree granting, and 11 Master’s programs for specialized subjects. The University has 4 postdoctoral research stations, 1 state-level key subject and 12 provincial key subjects with strong advantages and distinctive characteristics. The University admits students from 29 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government. The University has now over 23,700 students, including 18,000 undergraduates, 3,500 graduate students, 700 junior college students and 600 foreign students from 34 countries.The University has 2,327 strong and competitive faculty and staff, among of which 1,344 are full-time teachers, including 619 PhD owners and 571 Master degree owners. In recent years, the University has full implementation of the “Project of Cultivating High Quality Students” and pushed ahead the construction of the specialties with distinctive characteristics, based on multi-cultural education resources and the advantages of ethnic and regional characteristics. 7 specialties are designated as state-level specialties with distinctive characteristics and 7 as provincial brand specialties. In recent three years, the University has undertaken 184 research projects including the State 973 Program, projects sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Agriculture, National Natural Science Foundation and National Social Sciences Foundation, 127 projects at provincial or ministry level, 200 projects at department level, and 33 international collaborative projects. The University adheres to the internationalization strategy and has established close partnership with 393 universities and academic institutions in more than 20 countries and regions The University has attached great importance to building campus culture with distinctive ethnic features. There are nearly 200 registered student organizations.
