Introduction

The University of Haifa is one of the seven research Universities of Israel. It gained academic accreditation in 1972. Approximately 18,000 students are studying toward a degree (B.A., M.A.,B.Sc, M.Sc. or Ph.D.). The University includes seven faculties: the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Life Sciences, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Social Welfare and Health Sciences, the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Management. Research is concentrated in centers and institutes on a wide variety of subjects and fields. Among them: Maritime Sciences; the Study of Psychological Stress, Information Processing and Decision-Making, Evolution; The Holocaust Natural and Environmental Resources. Research Facilities Include: Center for Maritime Strategy Research; The Israeli Center for Research Excellence (I-CORE); Minerva Center for the Rule of Law Under Extreme Conditions; International Brain and Behavior Research Center; The Jewish-Arab Center, Herzl Institute for the Study of Zionism and Israel, Study of Crime, Law, and Society; Study of Pilgrimage, Tourism and Recreation; Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Emotions; Center for Democratic Studies; Center for Law and Technology; Center for Research of Education for Peace and Center for National Security Studies and Geostrategy. The University considers the link between academic excellence and social responsibility as its flagship, and service to the community as one of its important goals.
