ShanghaiRanking began publishing the world university rankings by academic subjects in 2009. Building on this foundation, the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) was introduced in 2017 with an enhanced methodology. The 2024 edition of GRAS evaluates universities in 55 subjects across five broad fields: Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences. Among more than 5,000 universities worldwide, over 1,900 institutions from 96 countries and regions are presented.GRAS relies on a comprehensive set of objective academic indicators and independent third-party data to assess performance at the subject level. The evaluation spans five major dimensions: World-Class Faculty, World-Class Output, High-Quality Research, Research Impact, and International Collaboration. The index of international academic awards is based on Academic Excellence Survey (AES) conducted by ShanghaiRanking.(Methodology)
