Nagoya Institute of Technology, situated in the world-quality manufacturing area of Central Japan, offers high-class education and research that support the technical innovation and industry enhancement of this area. By cooperating with other universities of science and technology around the world, we develop new science and technology through interdisciplinary studies, and seek to create a better future through education. Our aims are summarized below.1. Education: We aim to provide education that will lead to engineers and researchers aware of the concerns of society who can play their parts as good citizens with a sound sense of ethics. 2. Innovation in Science and Technology: We aim to lead science and technology in the 21st century and to spread our innovative technology over the surrounding area as the intellectual source for manufacturing in Central Japan. 3. Contribution to the Future: We aim to develop science and technology to solve the central problems of the 21st century, such as promoting human prosperity and preserving the global environment, and to contribute to human happiness and the welfare of international society. Nagoya Institute of Technology (NIT) was founded in 1905 as Nagoya Higher Technical School, a national institute. In the last 100-odd years, more than 70,000 outstanding human resources have graduated from our Institute. They built up the foundation of industrial society and support its prosperity. Responding social demands of the time, we have been reforming our education system continuously, the current number of students (the admission capacity for Day Courses of Faculty of Engineering is 910, Evening Courses is 20, the master's course of Graduate School of Engineering is 586 and the doctor's course is 39.) has become the largest scale among faculties of engineering of national universities. Our educational system consists of 7 departments 18 programs for Day Courses, 4 departments for Evening Courses and 7 majors of Graduate School. They cover most of foundational and advanced engineering fields. To achieve our mission, we wish to have a wide variety of students forging the future. In present situation, female students are 11.4% and foreign students are 4.8%. They increase 4-5times compared to 20 years ago and working students increase to a large extent at Graduate School particularly.
