National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) was founded in 1980 in Kaohsiung and became one of the fastest growing universities in Taiwan. NSYSU has endeavored to pursue excellence in teaching and research and to achieve the goal under the guidelines of “Aim for the Top University Plan” funded by the Ministry of Education. With Six colleges including Liberal Arts, Science, Engineering, Management, Marine Sciences, and Social Sciences, NSYSU offers 20 Bachelor’s, 37 Master’s and 27 Doctoral Programs. There are currently about 9,000 students enrolled and 500 full-time faculty members.
The university has forged partnerships with more than 162 academic institutions in over 36 countries. There are more than 1200 international students studying in NSYSU for short-term and long-term studies. The Chinese Language Center also provides various levels of courses for international students to improve the language and to know the culture.
Besides academic and research prestige, the university campus is situated next to sea and mountain where hiking and water sports, such as wind surfing and boat sailing, are common student activities. Interesting species such as Macaque Monkeys and Cacatus Parrots add anecdotes to the campus life.
