Vision and Goals: In response to Taiwan’s rapidly changing industrial sector, the government founded the National Taiwan Institute of Technology (NTIT) in 1974 to produce the highly-trained bachelor’s degree-level engineering and management talent needed by our industries at the time. In 1979 and 1982, NTIT added master’s and doctoral programs, respectively, and in 1997 it was upgraded to university status and changed its name to the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. Our current vision is to build Taiwan Tech into an international applied research university producing high-tech and management personnel with the ability to compete on a global level, thus supporting the future growth of our nation and society. Our goal seeks to employ multifaceted excellence, innovative expertise, technology integration, and holistic education on the platforms of intelligent green building technology and creative design, recruiting internationally-renowned chair professors to help us achieve cutting-edge breakthroughs in all aspects of our teaching and research, thus leading the development of the entire university, neighboring academic and research institutions, and local industry while aiding the upgrading of our industry and of our national ability to compete on a global stage. A Multifaceted Campus: At present, Taiwan Tech has seven colleges: Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Management, Design, Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Intellectual Property Studies and Honors. These colleges contain a total of 28 departments and graduate programs. We have also designed multifaceted cross-disciplinary credit-hour study programs and degree programs as well as cross-disciplinary research centers in order to provide students multifaceted curricula, integrate the research capabilities of our different departments, and foster the development of personnel who can work across disciplines. Currently, we have around 415 full-time faculty at the rank of assistant professor and above, 483 part-time faculty, and 250 professionals from commerce and industry who bring their real-world experience to our classrooms. Our student enrollment has reached nearly 10,398, almost evenly divided between undergraduate and graduate students. This gives us a student: faculty ratio of 18:1. Our undergraduate students come from over 200 of Taiwan’s general and vocational senior high schools, with a 1:2 ratio of general senior high school graduates to vocational senior high school graduates. Over 6% of our overall student body is comprised of international students from over 55 different countries, making our campus truly multifaceted.
