Joseph Fourier University (UJF) in Grenoble is one of France’s top faculties for teaching and research in the fields of Science, Technology and Health. It is set in outstanding natural surroundings in the heart of the French Alps.
UJF features in all major international rankings and offers undergraduate, postgraduate and vocational-training programmes for the jobs of the future in a wide range of fields: Physics and Chemistry, Mathematics and Computer Science, Biology, Medicine and Pharmacy, Engineering and Technology, Earth Sciences and Astronomy/Astrophysics, Environmental Studies, Geography and Territorial Science, Sports Sciences and Physical Education.

Innovative, top-flight courses
UJF’s graduate schools and International Master's courses, including Erasmus Mundus programmes, are world-class, with a focus on high-quality teaching and research.
UJF students benefit from state-of-the-art teaching methods at all levels. The University’s environment is firmly rooted in research and there are many opportunities to work with the latest generation of experimental and simulation equipment. Students also benefit from international courses and exchange programmes with other universities from around the world. A number of vocationally-oriented courses are being developed in partnership with a wide range of business, manufacturing and service organisations.

In the field of healthcare, UJF is improving its courses in Medicine and Pharmacy by introducing innovatory measures to make the first year of medicine fairer and more impartial, incorporating multimedia support and a tutorial system.

Research excellence
UJF has 50 research laboratories working with national research bodies such as CNRS and with the area's major international facilities such as the synchrotron and the Institut Laue Langevin in Grenoble. High-level research is contributing to the future wellbeing of humanity in four major areas: healthcare, computing and communication, the environment and new materials.
Joseph Fourier University promotes its research results via its subsidiary Floralis, which manages university-industry relationships. Thirty-five start-ups have been created in the last 15 years and around 70 development projects are currently in progress.

UJF and its partners are actively involved in five competitiveness clusters: Minalogic, Lyon Biopôle, Tenerrdis (new energy sources), Trimatec (nuclear and environmental technologies), Axelera (chemistry and the environment) and four Carnot Institutes - LSI (Software and Intelligent Systems), Energies du Futur (Future Energy Sources), PolyNat (High-added Value for, innovative, functional, bio-sourced and flexible Materials), and LISA (Lipids for Industry SAfety and health).

Social responsibility

Enrolment is open to all holders of secondary-school qualifications of Baccalaureate level. The University endeavours to provide all students with courses adapted to their needs, with special resources made available to the best and brightest, tailored programmes for high-level sportsmen and -women, personalised support and tutoring for those in need of it, learning through doing, and lifelong learning for all.
