Introduction

HSE University (National Research University Higher School of Economics) with its 4 campuses in Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Perm has become one of the most prestigious and well-renowned universities in Russia as well as the CIS and Eastern Europe in just two decades. HSE University has grown from a specialized institution focused on economic and social sciences to a comprehensive university based on multidisciplinary approach, international cooperation and digital education. One can study almost any subject at HSE University: from Computer Science and Management to Social Studies and World Economy, from Chemistry and Biotechnology to PR, Design and Applied Linguistics. HSE is a leader in combining Russian education traditions with the best international teaching and research practices. Now faculty, researchers, and students represent 90+ countries, including the CIS, North America, Europe, Asia, and beyond. HSE University offers high quality education at all levels, including Lyceum and business education, 80 undergraduate and 179 graduate programmes in more than 35 fields of study. Today, around 44,000 students are enrolled at the university, of whom 4,300 come from outside Russia. What attracts international students? - A range of different grants & scholarships for prospective students from around the world either based on the portfolio competition or on entrance exams’ scores (25-100% of tuition fee cover from HSE University); - Tuition and living costs in Russia are relatively low, compared to those in other countries; - High quality of teaching; - Classroom instruction is combined with experience-based learning through internships at major research centres, international corporations and companies in Russia; - An opportunity to take an international semester thanks to the agreements with more than 27 countries, such as Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, the UK, USA, Canada, China, Vietnam, Brazil, Japan, etc.; - Over 50 double degree programmes with 36 leading foreign universities; - Individualized curriculum with option to select additional tracks (i.e., minors) to gain further skills and competencies; - Over 150 clubs of various interests: from extreme sports and historical dance lessons to English-held debates and social student initiatives. All international applicants have an opportunity to get full or partial scholarships of up to 70% for Bachelor’s degree and up to 50% for Master`s degree. Early conclusion and payment of contract (before June 1, 2020) will give an entrant an additional 5% discount. The online procedure is simple and free: fill in the online application form and either take entrance exams for BA or upload portfolio online for MA programmes. In addition, graduates of the HSE Preparatory Year Programmes (tuition-based) get 50% of tuition fee cover from HSE University upon successful completion of the programme. Since its establishment in 1992, over 80,000 students have successfully graduated from HSE University. This is concrete proof of the value of the HSE diploma on the job market, thereby facilitating graduates’ rapid and successful career development in leading Russian and foreign companies. The university maintains 765 international cooperation agreements, including 390 exchange agreements. A UNESCO Chair has been established as part of the HSE’s partnership with UNESCO on Copyright and Other Intellectual Property Rights. HSE’s academic and scientific institutes, research centres and laboratories are overseen by world-renowned scholars, including Nobel laureate Eric Maskin; Ronald Inglehart, author and director of the World Values Survey; Jacques-François Thisse, one of the world’s most well-known and frequently cited researchers in the field of spatial economics; the Fields medal laureate Andrey Okunkov, and Fedor Bogomolov, a distinguished specialist in the field of algebraic and arithmetic geometry; and others. Furthermore, HSE’s researchers and teachers regularly publish their articles in the most reputable and cited international journals. Furthermore, the university also provides access to more than 18,000 different periodicals and serials, thus making its library unique among Russian institutions of higher education.
