Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) was founded in 1956 with a mission to provide quality Whole Person Education to its students. The institution became fully funded by the Government in 1983 and acquired university status in 1994.

HKBU places dual emphasis on teaching and research. To promote the necessary link between top-level cutting-edge research and teaching, the University established the Institute of Creativity in 2011.  Led by renowned scholars including Nobel Laureates, the Institute is a high-power think tank focusing on interdisciplinary and theme-based research.  It spearheads both fundamental and applied research relevant to the region’s socio-economic development that addresses societal concerns.  There are five research areas – development of new drugs based on traditional Chinese medicine, research on chemical technologies and new materials, studies on Chinese classical learning and sinology, computational and theoretical studies, and cross-cultural studies.

The University’s faculties provide consultancy and professional services to the Government, the business sector and industry, and strive to make practical use of their research results and findings to benefit society.

HKBU has enrolled 8,400 students in its undergraduate, taught postgraduate and research postgraduate programmes through the Faculty of Arts, School of Business, School of Chinese Medicine, School of Communication, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Social Sciences and Academy of Visual Arts. Our 600 passionate and genuinely caring scholars from 20 countries and regions do not just groom the workforce of tomorrow, they shape future leaders.
